Aberdeen Inspired clinches accolade for globally renowned Nuart Aberdeen

Business organisation Aberdeen Inspired clinched a prestigious accolade at the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) Awards in London last night (Wednesday June 26).

Aberdeen Inspired received the Best Culture and Arts Scheme award in recognition of the internationally award winning street art festival, Nuart Aberdeen.

Nuart Aberdeen, which was developed in collaboration with Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council, won in the tightly contested category, which attracted a large number of entries from organisations across the UK and Ireland.

The ATCM awards is the premier event for place-making and the ceremony was attended by business leaders and delegates from across the country that all have their part to play in place management.

Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “Nuart Aberdeen is a festival unlike any other in the UK which this year, has truly brought Aberdeen to the attention of the world.

“We are delighted with the positivity it has brought to our city and winning an ATCM award for the best cultural event in the UK and Ireland reinforces the impact the event has had not just on Aberdeen, but even further afield.

“Our small team works tirelessly to deliver our projects and initiatives, all of which are focussed on both building up the image of the city and drawing in footfall. Nuart Aberdeen in particular has truly captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike, attracting tens of thousands of people into the city centre.

“The legacy of the festival lives on, with the artworks attracting interest all year round and we’re very proud of the impact Nuart Aberdeen has had.”

In a record year for the festival, which is spearheaded by Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council, an estimated 30,000 people flocked to the city centre over the course of the launch weekend in April. Since then, thousands more have taken part in walking tours which run on selected days weekly until the end of September.

The addition of Inspired Nights on the Green to the festival weekend offering also proved hugely popular, and the most recent rendition of the event last weekend (Friday June 21 to Sunday June 23) resulted in more than 10,000 visits.
